CITY OF IMPERIA

Imperia is the capital of the Ligurian province and is located in the Riviera di Ponente, in the section called "Riviera dei fiori". Born as an industrial city and today converted into a tourist city, Imperia offers its visitors breathtaking panoramic views and a wide variety of attractions for every type of need. Imperia owes its name to the Empire torrent which separates Oneglia from Porto Maurizio, once rival cities. Porto Maurizio, perched on the Parasio promontory, was already an important economic and commercial center in the Middle Ages. Oneglia, extending over the plain at the mouth of the Impero stream, was founded after the year 1000; in 1923 the two cities united and thus the city of Imperia was born. The tourist who visits Imperia is often surprised because everything in this city is double: there are two historic centres, two stations and two ports. There are various types of beach, from sand to pebbles to rocks. In recent years Imperia has witnessed an increase in tourism thanks to important events, such as the Vele d'Epoca and the Videofestival, a new cycle path connects Imperia to Sanremo all along the seashore. The climate of the Western Ligurian Riviera (Riviera dei Fiori) is famous for being pleasant in summer and mild in winter. This makes Imperia an ideal destination for stays all year round. Nearby there are the unmissable villages of the province of Imperia; Cervo (25 min) Bussana Vecchia (45 min) Dolceacqua (1 h), Apricale (1h 15min) are the other most beautiful villages in the province; Borgio Verezzi, Finalborgo and Noli (45 min) those in the province of Savona.. But it is Genoa (1h 30m), the Superba, the ancient Maritime Republic that dominated the Mediterranean Sea reaching its maximum splendor in the 16th century, the unmissable destination for a visitor who loves history, art and culture or who simply wants to see the colors and breathe the scents of the "alleyways" of its historic center close to the ancient port or take the children to the Genoa Aquarium, among the largest in the world. The Grotte di Toirano complex, rich in stalactites and stalagmites and containing prehistoric footprints and graffiti, is another worthy tourist attraction in Liguria (40 min). The border with neighboring France and the renowned Côte d'Azur is only an hour's journey away: Montecarlo, Nice, Cannes and Saint Tropez will not betray the expectations of those seeking the luxury and worldliness of an elite tourism.

TWO STEPS TO POGGI

The medieval village of Poggi, reachable in 15 minutes on foot from the villa, is considered one of the unmissable villages in the province of Imperia. The hamlet of Poggi is a small village surrounded by olive trees and perched on top of a promontory located in the lower part of Val Prino with a spectacular panoramic view of the sea and Porto Maurizio, dominated by the Parasio. Poggi is made up of two residential areas, one upper and lower, divided in half by the parish church of the Madonna della Neve and the oratory of Sant'Antonio. Given its 360-degree sunny position, the Poggi area is considered one of the most popular residential areas in the city.
